TV meets Harlequin covers

On The Bachelor, TV 'dating' show, a contest was set up to further winnow down the prospective ladies. This time the evening was going to be filled with romance, Harlequin style. The contest: a photo shoot. The woman who showed the most cover-chemistry was the winner. The prize: not the bachelor, not yet anyway, instead a three-book cover contract with romance novel publishing giant - Harlequin.

"Seduced" is the winner, with Kristy, a professional model, as the heroine.
My opinion - of all the participants Sean is the most natural/relaxed looking. He looks like he belongs in the scene, for the most part the women look self-conscious & stiff. Of course, they're the ones with the most to lose/gain. It's not that surprising he looks at ease.

I confess this is not a show I follow, I was grabbed by the cover shoot idea. None-the-less this line is worth sharing. Full link to episode summary.

Sean: "I do consider myself a man"(well, that's good, because it seems to be an intrinsic part of the show's premise. Also, why consider? Why didn't he just say "I am a man."? I mean it'd be self evident, but less like he wasn't 100% sure.)

Homemade Grapefruit Marmalade

So, guess what I spent the weekend doing? That's right the jars on orange goo are the clue. I made marmalade. A friend at work had a whole lot of grapefruit that she didn't know what to do with... but I did :)

 

There's something about homemade marmalade. I think it's that I like grapefruit rather than orange, and most of the stuff you buy is at least partially orange. It's such a marvelous combination of bitter & sweet. It's a somewhat time consuming activity, but it's also so very simple. The chopping of the fruit and the boiling all takes time. However, ingredients not complicated: fruit, sugar, water... yes that's it. Mix, boil, bottle... eat.

Prosthetics through the aes

After 3 posts on covers I thought we could use a pallet cleanser, but never fear I'll cover of the other categories next time. Today I thought we could look at something I personally found fascinating: prosthesis through the ages. If I thought of what people did before modern technology, guess I thought of cartoons of pirates and their wooden legs. Turns out things were more ingenious than I thought.

 An arm for work with different hammer attachments - very steampunk.

 Leg, complete with joints at knee, ankle & toes

Not a happy topic, but certainly a fascinating one.

Last 2 posts have been kinda text heavy, so how about something non brain straining, something where you can just sit back and go "oooo".  Yeah, that's what I feel like too.

Nail crazy

Okay, I'll admit upfront, I'm not much of a girly-girl. If I have to choose between reading and doing my nails, or shopping, or getting my hair done, or talking endlessly on the phone or..... (you get the idea), Then reading is going to win every time. Nonetheless, even I was fascinated by a gallery exhibition dedicated to nail art.

Very fun, though I think if you actually wore them, not so fun.

Statment: I'm so powerful, people do everything for me (because with nails like these I can't do anything for myself).
